Arsenal boosted in the pursuit of Draxler as Juventus fail

Nagendra / 28 July 2015

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit to sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler after club rejected a €22m (£15.5m) offer from Juventus. The 21-year old is a long standing target of Arsenal and was heavy linked with a move to Juventus earlier.

Schalke have given Juventus permission to discuss personal terms with the player last week but rejected the deal as they feel the sum is too low for the German prodigy. The player is valued at £21.3m by Schalke and they are not willing to sell him any cheaper.

Arsenal have been monitoring the midfielder for the past few seasons as they git close to signing him last summer. The 21-year old has a contract at Schalke till 2018 and has a release clause of €45 million which expired on July 1.

“We have checked the offer, which was out of the question for us,” said Schalke’s sporting director, Horst Heldt after reviewing the offer.

“In a very realistic way, there are many proposals in the market. Today we presented an offer based on our evaluations and I think there’s still a big gap,” the Juventus director Beppe Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

The comments of the clubs meant that the negotiations are all but over. Arsenal are looking to rope the player in as the club is looking for a sum of £21.3 million.

The player has faced few set-backs last season as his progress was heavily interrupted by regular injuries. Julian Draxler is the academy prduct of Schalke and have made over 100 Bundesliga appearences to the club.
