London outfit Arsenal have not had the best transfer windows this summer.

Many a European stars who were scouted by the club have eluded the grasp of the Frenchman at the helm of the club, who has in turn been criticized for the lack of ambitions in these transfer windows.

Arsene Wenger has been linked to some of the best players in Europe this summer but he has not been able to get his hands on any of his top transfer targets which has seen him actively search the transfer market for further additions to the squad.

But now with less than a week left for the new season to start, the manager has turned his attention towards players who are already in the squad.

Wenger will surely let go of players who play no part in his adventure next season but he will also have to make sure that he ties star players to the team for the long term.

This has seen the manager open talks with two of the star players in the squad in Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The Chilean midfielder made a move to Arsenal a couple of years ago from Barcelona and has since been arguably the best player for the club. He took the club to an FA Cup victory a season ago and helped them to a second place finish in the previous season and is easily one of the most important players for Wenger in his plans for the club in the future.

Mesut Ozil, the German maestro, who moved to Arsenal in a big money move from Real Madrid even before Sanchez was not impressive in his debut season with the club but he came back all guns blazing and established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe at the moment.

Both players were in amongst major trophies with their previous clubs but have just managed to lift the FA Cup since their move to England.

Though Arsenal are strong enough to fight for the Premier League title, their lack of ambition in the Champions League may just have hurt them.

Recent reports have now revealed that both Sanchez and Ozil have not yet agreed to extend their contracts with the club ahead of the next season and that the club failed in their attempt to pin them down for the long term.

Both players have 2 years left on their contract and though they can agree on an extension even during the season, it looks like the duo are waiting on other possibilities.

It is not yet clear as to why the stars have not extended their contracts but there will be no shortage of clubs who will be ready to pounce on them if they are made available.

If Wenger is not able to pen them down, he will enter the next season with just an year left on both the contracts and will be on the verge of losing both on a free transfer in a single season.

Do you think Sanchez and Ozil will sign contract extensions with Arsenal soon?
