Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has suffered a knee injury during the London derby last Saturday and was forced to be taken off during the game.
The Frenchman has played only 31 minutes as he clutched his knee before being subbed off for Granit Xhaka as Arsenal won the game quite convincingly with a 3-0 scoreline.
However, the only setback from the game was the injury of Francis Coquelin as Gooners has feared that the talented midfielder could be out for as much as two months with the knee injury that have been tormenting the player’s playing time since last season.
However, Arsene Wenger has good news for the fans ahead of their crucial Champions League clash against Basel as Emirates is set to host Arsenal’s first home game in Champions League on Wednesday. The 66-year old has confirmed that the injury was a minor one and the player could be back with the team very soon.
Coquelin has undergone tests on Monday and a complete prognosis was expected on Tuesday regarding his injury. The manager has confirmed the scan was positive as the player will be sidelined for a short term.
“Coquelin is out for the game tomorrow,” Wenger said.
“It should be a short-term injury. The scan was quite positive.”
The injury, however, provides the ideal opportunity for new signing Granit Xhaka to show his class as he has been consistently delivering great performances for the Gunners over the last few weeks.
The Swiss international will now get the opportunity to start the games for Arsenal on a regular basis until Coquelin gets fit. Wenger has had problems while choosing between Coquelin, Xhaka and Cazorla as all the three have been in spectacular form for the club this season so far as they played a crucial role in the Gunners dominance in their playing style over the last few weeks.coqu
