Arsenal Invincible Thierry Henry Fires Title Warning To The Gunners With Liverpool Point

Everybody at Arsenal is elevated and already dreaming of their club being serious title contenders, after taking an early lead at the top of the Premier League table, except their own legend Thierry Henry. The Gunners have experienced a complete turnaround at the club under Mikel Arteta, who has steered them to the top of the table with 9 win from 11 league games. They have created a lead over defending champions Manchester City, which was however cut to two points from four after their draw against Southampton in the last game.

And Thierry Henry has now given Arsenal and Arteta a reality check. A two-time Premier League winner himself, Henry has urged Arsenal to ‘not get carried away’ by their recent form, and rather build something solid with it. The Frenchman believes City are still the favourites to complete a three-peat of league titles, and the Gunners are miles away from posing a threat. The Arsenal all-time top-scorer also drew parallel Liverpool’s case, who despite all their strength have avoided City from winning the league only on one occasion in the past five years.

Look at Liverpool – Thierry Henry not buying into Arsenal title calls

Manchester City have almost created a monopoly on the Premier League title in the last five years, winning the league on four occasions out of five. It was only the 2019-20 season when City were ‘not’ crowned as the Premier League champions as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool finally brought it home after 30 long years. Arsenal, who are playing some exciting football under Arteta and enjoying the lead at the top of the table are now looking to snatch City’s bragging rights by winning their first league title since 2003/04.

However, Thierry Henry feels it is still a long way for his former team to reach Man City’s level. The World Cup winner explained his point by using Liverpool’s case, who have come closest to challenge City, but have only managed to win one league title to their four in the last five seasons. Moreover, Liverpool’s tally of 97 points [2018/19] and 93 points [2021/22] too have not been enough for the Reds to win the Premier League title. Talking on CBS Sports about Arsenal’s chances, Henry who was part of Arsene Wenger’s ‘Arsenal Invincibles’ who went the entire 2002/03 season unbeaten in the league to lift the title, said:

“It’s 11 games, you celebrate the title after 38 games, not before that. That’s me, I have always had that mentality. What we are talking about right now with Arsenal is hope. Manchester City can talk, Man City can be loud because we have seen it before with them and we know what it takes for a team to stay with them.

“Look at Liverpool… twice they tried to maintain the rhythm of Man City but couldn’t do it. So, let’s see what’s going to happen to us. I won’t get carried away. But we have hope and I have a lot of hope at the minute.”

The four-time Premier League top-scorer for the season is unsure whether or not Arsenal could maintain their lead at top for 38 games. City have certainly set the bar high, accumulating more than 90 points enroute to their title win on three out of four occasions. Arsenal, who are just getting back on their feet after some disastrous recent years can only dream of such a feat despite their current form.

Nonetheless, Arsenal are doing everything possible to help their manager bulk up with transfers, giving him a war-chest of over £100 million to spend over the last two summer transfer windows. Arteta is developing an exciting breed of footballers at the Emirates, and is building a team with the right mixture of young as well as experienced players. The progress cannot be denied at Arsenal, but there’s a lot of work to be done before they can actually challenge, and win their first league title since 2004.
