Arsenal player ratings of their 2-0 win over Bournemouth

Arsene Wenger’s side welcomed their league rivals Bournemouth to north London on Monday for their all important clash in the Premier League, as they looked to go to the top of the points table with a win, with Manchester City facing off against Leicester City on Tuesday. The home side were keen to recover from their 4-0 loss to Southampton on Boxing Day at the St. Marys’ with a win at the Emirates.

The Gunners looked the more postive side, as they scored through a Gabriel header in the 27th minute from a Mesut Ozil corner, as the German international claimed his 16th assist for the season. The north London side went into the break leading the game at 1-0, with another 45 still left to play.

There were more chances as both sides came out after the interval, though the French manager’s side dominated proceedings for most of the match and it Ozil and striker Olivier Giroud combining that saw Arsenal score a well created second goal, with the former Real Madrid man claiming one to his name on the 63rd minute. There were no more goals and the match eventually ended in a 2-0 win to Wenger’s team.

Petr Cech: 3/5

Though he did keep yet another clean sheet, he did not have too many saves to make. A few saves here and there helped his side take back all three points.

Kieran Gibbs: 3/5

Tried to push forward as much as possible, as his team were on the attack more often than not in the game.

Per Mertesacker: 3/5

Looked good at the back, especially towards the end of the match with his strength in the air that helped his side win the match comfortably.

Hector Bellerin: 3/5

A good performance by the Spaniard, as he looked to push forward in the game as much as possible and attack with every chance that he got.

Calum Chambers: 2.5/5

Another average performance in which he was sloppy at times and gave the ball away quite easily.

Gabriel Paulista: 3.5/5

Opened the scoring for his side from a corner, with a well taken header that gave him his first goal for Arsenal. Also, put in a good shift at the back to help his side win.

Aaron Ramsey: 3/5

Took control of the ball well, creating some good moves, though did not really dominate the game.

Mesut Ozil: 4/5

Added another assist to his name from a well taken corner that was converted by Gabriel and scored a good goal himself, as he linked up well with Giroud.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain: 3.5/5

Looked really positive in the game, as he was constantly prepared to run at defenders and was creative with his trickery. Troubled the back-line on numerous occasions.

Theo Walcott: 2.5/5

Could have possibly scored quite a few times in the game, yet did not make a real impact.

Olivier Giroud: 3/5

A few good chances were wasted by the Frenchman, who claimed a beautiful assist for a well constructed goal for Ozil.


Nacho Monreal: 2.5/5

Came on in the second half of the match to keep Ritchie and Smith quiet and secure all three points.

Joel Campbell: 2.5/5

Could have had an assist, as he nearly sent Oxlade Chamberlain through, whose shot deflected and hit the post.

Alex Iwobi: N/A

A late substitute and could not make much of an impact on the game.
