Arsenal is set to make a last-ditch attempt to land Ezequiel Lavezzi in January.
The former Napoli man’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is ready to leave PSG on a free in search of a new challenge.
But now, according to Calciomercato, Arsenal have made an 11th-hour bid to snatch Lavezzi away from Barcelona.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly a big fan of the 30-year-old and believes he would be an astute signing if secured on a free.
Arsenal is currently in desperate need of striking reinforcements and with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi now available for a cut-price fee, apparently the Gunners are set to swoop in January.
The Argentine forward’s contract with PSG expires next summer and the general consensus is that he will not sign a new deal with the French Champions.
With his time now winding down at the Parc des Princes, PSG is apparently set to try and cash in on the attacking talent in the coming transfer window rather than allow him to leave on a free in June.
Italian publication Calciomercato is claiming that the Gunners are keen on making the acquisition, however, the fact that Lavezzi is already 30 years old has some eyebrows raised.
Wenger rarely moves for players in the twilight of their careers yet the fact that the Argentine will be available for such a reasonable price, coupled with the fact that there seems to be a dearth of attacking talent in Europe means that this deal would still make great sense for the Gunners.
Despite Olivier Giroud shocking the continent with a big goal in a big game on Tuesday night, Arsenal is desperate to increase their attacking options with a move for Ezequiel Lavezzi. But the Paris Saint-Germain striker is also apparently being watched by Manchester United and Barcelona, who are really short in attack.
Barcelona is apparently also interested, but Arsenal are keen to take him to the Emirates.
The Gunners are still keen to add a striker, having failed to sign an outfield player over the summer.
