It has been a bizarre day at the Emirates with London club Arsenal linked with a wide variety of players in the transfer market.
The manager is in search of players who fit into the gaps that the current squad at the Emirates has and has been linked with a number of players. So let’s take a look at the transfer round-up for Arsenal for the day:
It has been finalized that Arsenal have missed out on one of their top transfer targets this summer after news broke out earlier today that Juventus are closing in on a move for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.
According to reports, the Argentine striker has completed a medical in Turin ahead of a £78m move, This news will come as a blow for the Gunner’s fans who were hoping to see Higuain play under Wenger.
In other news, the club is still linked with moves for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi and Lyon striker Alexander Lacazette. Move for Icardi seems to have hit a snag while Lacazette’s story took an interesting path.
Reports today emerged that the 25-year old French international is not happy with the challenges at Lyon and is looking to move away from League 1. And it is revealed that Arsenal are close to making an approach for the player ahead of a move this summer. It will be interesting to see how this story takes shape in the coming days.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are locked in a battle with Wolfsburg in a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Matthias Ginter, according to the Daily Star.
The 22-year old German defender is also said to have attracted interest from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg but the Gunners seem to be poised to make a £10million approach for a move this summer. It is also reported that Wenger is hoping that Dortmund would hesitate to sell a player to direct rivals and are hoping to get a deal done quickly.
The Daily Mail reported that 21-year old Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is currently a transfer target for Premier League side Watford.
The English national is preferred as a right-back at Arsenal but Watford are reportedly hoping to turn him into a top-class centre-back in years to come. However, the Gunners are not ready to let him leave unless they find a replacement of their own.
And finally for the biggest story of the day, one that will bring some smiles on the fans of the club, Arsenal are close to striking a deal for the PFA Player of the Year for the Premier League last season.
Riyad Mahrez, the unsung hero of the Leicester City fairy-tale last season is reportedly on his way to Arsenal this summer. It was revealed today that the Algerian international prefers to move to the Emirates over Stamford Bridge and is not too far away from a €50m (£41.8m) transfer move to London.
It will be a great addition to the Arsenal squad which will see Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, and Riyad Mahrez play as an attacking trio behind the striker which looks one of the strongest in the league.
However, no officials word is out yet and Mahrez is a Leicester City player, for the moment at least.
