Arsenal teammate reveals secret behind Alexis Sanchez’s crazy training schedule

Alex Iwobi has revealed that Alexis Sanchez is so dedicated to training that he even does press-ups while Arsene Wenger is talking to the Arsenal squad.

A number of Arsenal fans were initially surprised at Arsene Wenger’s stubbornness in using Sanchez as a lone striker this term, but the French coach’s tactics have paid off with four Premier League goals for the forward so far.

Sanchez has been praised for his tenacious attitude this term, and Iwobi has revealed to FourFourTwo that the 27-year-old shows the same attitude in training as well.

When asked about the Gunners squad’s toughest personnel, Iwobi said: “There’re a few hard workers; I’d say Alexis Sanchez [is the best]. He comes out early, everyone’s walking out to training and he’s running.

“When the coach is talking sometimes he’s just doing press-ups and I’m like ‘really?’, but he works very hard in training.”

But there was bad news for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has struggled to earn a regular starting role in recent seasons.

On his team-mates’ timekeeping, Iwobi said: “Alexis is always early… he’s going to slaughter me but Chambo is always late. I haven’t been involved with the first team that long but it’s always him, always him.”

Danny Welbeck ‘is a beast who does ridiculous things’ in the gym, while Mohamed Elneny never stops running and is “…everywhere; it shows in the match that he covers a lot of distance.”

Iwobi reserved special praise for Santi Cazorla as the king of nutmegs: “some of the things he does, it’s just funny now. It’s hilarious that we stop training and start laughing.”

Cazorla would also be the winger’s first-choice pick in five-a-side: “The way he controls the game with both feet is just so technical. He’s the one you always want on your team.”

Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are masters of the classy finish in training, with Iwobi saying: “They score some ridiculous goals and you ask ‘did you really mean it?’, but you can tell they did.”

Unsurprisingly, Gabriel is no shrinking violet: “He flies into everything head first. He’s the worst to play against in training.”

And Hector Bellerin – who has been backed by Arsene Wenger in a potential sprint race against Olympic legend Usain Bolt – is clearly the fastest, with Iwobi adding: “I didn’t believe it was him until we did the tests and he won – it was crazy.”
