Arsenal transfer round-up: 2 out; update on 3 other stories

The Gunners had a relatively sedate day on Monday as the manager was not extensively linked with any new players in the transfer window.

But there are a number of interesting stories that have taken to the papers today and with just over a month left of the transfer window, any of them might turn out to be true. So let’s take a look at all the stories surrounding the Emirates on Monday:

Continuing from yesterday, Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez is still on the verge of completing a transfer to the club. Though the manager Claudio Ranieri insisted that the Algerian international is happy at the club after a pre-season game against Celtic, reports suggest that he is close to joining Wenger’s team this summer.

He is believed to cost the Gunners around £35m but adding the PFA player of the year of the previous season will surely improve Arsenal’s chances next season.

To move on, the club has reportedly made an enquiry for the Lyon star Alexander Lacazette. The 25-year old is on fire in League 1 over the last two seasons and is reportedly unsettled the club.

Wenger who wants to add to Giroud and Welbeck in his front line wants the French International and is ready to pay the £40m price tag that is slapped on him by the French club. He may be the difference for Arsenal between a 2/3rd place finish and a title in the Premier League next season.

In more encouraging news for the Gunners, star right back Hector Bellerin, who was reportedly on the radar of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, revealed that he will be staying at the club for the next season.

The Spanish right-back who was impressive last season at both ends of the field for Wenger will keep his place in the starting XI going into the next season.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are set to bid farewell to two players this summer in Wojciech Szczesny and Mathieu Debuchy.

The goal-keeper who was in a bust with the manager after a smoking incident fell out of favor at the Emirates and was loaned to Roma for the later stage of the last season.

The Italian side want to extend his loan-spell for another year with both clubs splitting the player’s wages. It is to be seen whether Szczesny has any kind of future at Arsenal in the coming years.

In more recent news, the full-back Mathie Debuchy might be on his way to Bordeaux on a permanent deal this summer.

The 30-year old French national has three years left on his contract and cost around £10m two years ago. Though there is no official word on whether Arsene Wenger wants his to leave on a permanent basis, the exploits of Hector Bellerin in the right back position leaves him with no other option.
