After a summer of virtually no signings, Arsene Wenger who almost paid for it with the injury crisis at the club was just a step away from signing Egyptian International El-Nenny early in the transfer window.

KingFut earlier reported that the Club and the player have agreed terms over a move in January but the transfer is now under jeopardy after reports revealed that the 23-year old is not getting a work permit to fly to England.

The player was set to fly to London for a medical prior to his transfer to the club but without a permit, it looks like the deal will be postponed for now.

The FC Basel player is a very good reader of the game and has good vision that will help him settle into the English style of play quickly. He will join the likes of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Thomas Rosicky.

El-Nenny may have to work his way through the ranks at Arsenal but will definitely be a good signing in the wake of all the injuries to key players this season.

The Gunners who sit at the top of the table going into the 20th round of fixtures will welcome the Magpies in a crucial encounter between teams at different ends of the table.
