It was a massive day for Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal’s side as the Gunners registered their first win at Old Trafford in 9 seasons. The victory must have tasted even sweeter for Wenger as it knocked United out of the FA Cup and ended their last hope of any silverware this season.

As expected the Arsenal manager was over the moon in his post-match interview and discussed Arsenal’s hopes of retaining the FA Cup and how the Se Final draw against Bradford or Reading enhances his side’s chances.

Arsenal Wenger on the possibility of playing the semi final against Bradford:

“Last year we played a tricky game at Wembley in the semi-final and you expect that again.

“We have played Bradford before, we know about that but let’s enjoy tonight.

“I feel we played a good game tonight from the start and we deserved to win the game.”

Wenger had special praise for Welbeck, who left his boyhood club to join Arsenal last summer, and was the man who provided the killer blow to United after a terrible mistake by Antonio Valencia.

The manager said“I believe he is just happy to score. He worked very hard today and he was rewarded by a good goal.”

The Gunners went to Old Trafford on the back of a fine run in the Barclays Premier League, with seven wins in the last eight games. Yet this could have been the make or break game in their season as a loss could have dented their hopes of progressing swiftly in the league and it could have affected their run in the Champions League as well.

Arsenal have a massive battle waiting for them in a week’s time when they visit Monaco with a hope of overturning the 3-1 home defeat they suffered at Emirates. Wenger expressed his desires to be alive in all the competitions and look to progress as further as possible.

Wenger said: “We live in the real world and we play game by game, we want to compete in every competition and I believe the result today can give us some good morale.”
