Atletico de Kolkata co-owner Sourav Ganguly has claimed the inaugural Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata are in talks to sign Brazilian star Kaka. Kaka is currently playing with Orlando City in Major Super League, and is the highest paid player in the league.

“About Kaka … talks are going on, but nothing have been finalised yet. When it is finalised we will surely disclose the news,” Ganguly said on Thursday.

Atletico de Kolkata are hoping to sign Kaka as their marquee player for the upcoming season, while there is no news on whether they will retain the services of their skipper Luis Garcia. Luis Garcia won the Most Entertaining Player of the League award in the inaugural season. According to the Indian Super League rules, ” Each club must have a minimum one marquee player. Clubs can retain their marquee player from inaugural season or are free to sign one from open market with prior approval from the League.”

Sourav Ganguly also confirmed manager Antonio Lopez Habas will remain at the club for next season after a successful inaugural season.

“Habas has been brilliant as a coach. He will remain the coach for sure. He helped Atletico become champions,” Ganguly said.
