Radamel Falcao’s tenure as a Manchester United player is set to end on a barren spell on the bench as it was earlier confirmed that Robin Van Persie is due to be back in United’s squad before the crucial game against Manchester City 12th April.
Louis Van Gaal has opted to operate with the lone striker in Wayne Rooney in recent weeks and has decided to bench Falcao. It gets even worse for the Colombian as he has not played any football in many of the recent games.
Having already gone through a difficult spell Van Persie’s return is the last thing Falcao could have hoped for. Van Persie will be Van Gaal’s automatic #2 striker which would mean that if at all Man United need a game changer it would be Van Persie and not Falcao.
Van Persie has missed last month of on-field action due to the ankle injury and is targeting a Derby-day return against Manchester City. Van Persie himself has been a mere shadow of his first season at United. The Dutchman has failed to have any impact while playing under Van Gaal.
Falcao has stated his desires to play regular football going in to the International break where he will play for Colombia in 3 matches hoping to prove his fitness and form to Manchester United manager. There have been rumours circulating that Liverpool have contacted Monaco over the possibility of signing Falcao on loan next season.
