Barcelona breaking record for fun! How did they achieve their 29 game unbeaten-streak?

FC Barcelona created history last season winning treble thanks to a world-class forward line. However, this season, the Catalan giants have set out to break their own records and have been simply unplayable 6 months into the new La Liga season.

Ever since the loss to Sevilla back in October, Luis Enrique’s side have not been beaten in the league and are on their merry way to their second title in as many years.

They are now unbeaten in their last 29 outings and have won 23 of those games. They have drawn 6 games and are yet to face defeat in almost 5 months and there are no signs of the club slowing down with the front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Luis Suarez working wonders every time they step onto the field.

Ever since his move to Barcelona from Liverpool, Luis Suarez has looked a player who always belongs at Barcelona and has bagged as many as 30 club goals even as the season has just entered February.

In their incredible run of form, the Camp Nou outfit have scored a staggering 87 goals and have let in just 15 showing the strength of the team in both ends of the field.

Players from defense to attacks are playing as a group and are seemingly becoming harder and harder to beat. The likes of Gerard Pique and Mascherano have done extremely well at the back while Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, and the new by Alex Vidal have all done their job in giving the front line a solid base to launch their attacks on.

Ivan Rakitic, the most used played in this run by the manager has had a superb season so far replacing the likes of Xavi in the midfield. Star midfielder Iniesta has also shown his class scoring the odd goal and keeping the mid-field running like a machine.

The addition of Arda Turan and Sergi Roberto in the middle along with Sergio Busquets in front of the back four has been a mantra that has worked wonders for the Catalan giants who are now looking to achieve the feat of consecutive trebles for the first time.

Barcelona, as a whole, have completed a total of 17,122 passes in the 29-game run. That is more than 10,000 more than their opponents have totaled in that span (7,005), showing their ability to dominate opponents irrespective of their stature. Alves leads the team with 1,507 passes completed.

Barcelona are inducted with the DNA of winning games and their comebacks against Athletic and Espanyol in the Copa del Rey to get into their 6th final in 8 years shows how badly the club and its players want silverware this season.

Though the club has had some seriously thumping results, including the 4-0 victory in the El Classico, it is their hard fought victories such as the 2-1 victory over Malaga and the 2-0 victory over Levante recently show that the players are happy to fight it out and stay in the game when the going gets tough.

However, their ruthlessness in front of goal was showcased in the 7-0 victory over Gary Neville’s Valencia in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. The movement on and off the ball, the ability to counter attack and the understanding between the front three was too much to handle for the hosts as the Catalan giants made a statement of intent and made sure that everyone stands up and notices them.

What has been good to see at Camp Nou has been the understanding between the team as a whole over the length of 5 years even as the club was in the middle of a crisis. The club has been involved in a turmoil of court cases and has had fiscal problems along with a political situation not suited for sport.

However, none of these seem to have any effect on the players and the dressing room as the quality along with the understanding in the team is at display week in week out.

The club has a total of 11 different goal scorers in this fabulous run showing the fact that team is playing as a whole and that every player is ready to take his chance when called upon.

Barcelona now face a tough week ahead in the Spanish calendar with Celta visiting on Sunday and Sporting in the mid-week. They will travel to Las Palmas next weekend and by that time Barca can easily put the title beyond anyone else who is within their sight.

Not losing 29 games on the trot is not an easy feat and Luis Enrique will be more than happy but not winning a treble after theses performances may dent the manager’s portfolio but the club with an inform front line look like they will find it easy in this season also.

Though Arsenal come calling in the next week in a Champions League encounter, the Spanish giants will be favorites to push the English franchise out of the competition ad maintain their unbeaten run going into the business end of the season.

Can the Bulgarana win yet another treble this season?
