According to the latest reports in Spain, European giants Barcelona are set to rival Chelsea and Juventus as they prepare to sign Brazilian sensation Gabriel Barbosa.

The 19-year old is one of the hottest properties in the current transfer window which saw clubs go frenzy with their deals. Barbosa is a Santos youth prodigy who have impressed with his skills that have made clubs like Juventus and Chelsea enquire about his availability.

However, despite Juventus making a €20 million offer for the 19-year-old, Barcelona has the right to first refusal which they got while signing Neymar back in 2013.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Catalan club’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez is on his way to South America to finalize a deal for the exciting future prospect.

Barcelona have already signed the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes this summer but coach Luis Enrique feels that signing Barbosa will give the Catalan club, a back up to the famous trio of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Neymar.

Chelsea has previously offered €30 million but the player has refused the Blues as he was on the verge of signing a new deal at Santos.

While Santos own 40 per cent of his economic rights, the remaining 60 per cent are split between his family (40 per cent) and sports investment group Doyen (20 per cent).

The Brazilian, who is set to take part in Rio Olympics next week, had earlier said: “I played as if it was my last game here. Soon you will know something.”
