Barcelona captain and star midfielder Sergio Busquets has confessed that he will consider “several options” with less than 12 months left on his current deal at Camp Nou. Busquets has been a pillar of this Barca team which has won a number of titles with the 34-year-old at the heart of their midfield. His iconic midfield partnership with Andres Iniesta and Xavi at the club is regarded as arguably the best ever to grace the pitch.

However, Busquets is the last one standing alongside Gerrard Pique from that ‘dream team’ which flaunted the likes of Carles Puyol,  Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and many more. With Pique’s future uncertain as well, Busquets has been tipped with a move to MLS next summer when his deal expires.

Barcelona have reportedly accepted Busquets’ departure for free next summer

While the midfielder plans to bud adieu to Camp Nou, several clubs have already circled around him to acquire his services. Busquets has had a stellar career at the Catalan club, often pulling the strings from behind the curtains to lead his side to numerous triumphs. Graduating through the club’s famous La Masia academy, Busquets has so far racked up 685 first-team appearances for Barcelona after making his debut n 2008.

He has won a whopping 32 trophies at the club which include three Champions League titles and 7 La Liga championships. A World Cup and EUROs winner with Spain as well, it was quite certain that he will receive several offers once he decides to quit Camp Nou. But the midfielder has reportedly set his sights on a move to MLS, with David Beckham owned Inter Miami a potential destination.

On the other hand, Barcelona too are ready to part ways with their captain next summer as they look to rebuild their squad. They have brought in a number of young players through their academy as well as over the last couple of transfer windows. Frenkie de Jong [25], Franck Kessie [25], Pedri [19] and Gavi [18] are all ready to takeover the club’s midfield. Moreover, his former teammate and now manager Xavi too has anticipated Busquets’ exit and plans to replace him with De Jong who stayed at the club this summer.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old himself has revealed his stance on future at Camp Nou. Busquets is currently on international duty with Spain as they face Switzerland and Portugal in the Nations League. The Spain captain said:

“Everything that has appeared in the media has seemed strange to me because there is nothing. I haven’t thought about it, I want to see how the season goes. I have several options: continue at my club or in other leagues. It is clear that I am not 20 years old, but in the end, a priori, it is the last year of the contract that I signed, I understand that there are rumours, but another thing is that they are false and things are not official until they become official.”

While the decorated midfielder’s departure looking more realistic, Barcelona have reportedly identified Real Sociedad’s 23-year-old defensive mid Martin Zubimendi as his replacement. However, he will still have two years left on his Sociedad deal next summer and will take a massive transfer fee to lure the basque club into selling their talented player.
