Effects of Luis Enrique-Lionel Messi were in full effect as Barcelona took on Elche in Copa Del Ray on Thursday. Only 27,099 supporters turned up to see, perhaps which was Barcelona’s most complete performance this season as they ran riot on La Liga’s bottom side Elche with a 5-0 demolition job, to advance in Copa Del Ray’s next round.

After the epic meltdown between the player and manager, Camp Nou have clearly picked their favourite. There were constant cheers for Luis Enrique and cheers for Lionel Messi were all over Camp Nou, throughout the game. Luis Enrique was heavily criticised for not picking Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in Barcelona’s defeat to Real Sociedad.

Luis Enrique picked his strongest side available against Elche and result was quite obvious. Barca turned on the style as the terrific trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez all scored in the first half to put Barcelona comfortably in the Quarter Finals of Copa Del Ray.

Luis Suarez was on inspiring form as he scored and assisted in Barcelona’s 5-0 thumping on Elche. There was a special moment when Lionel Messi scored from the Penalty won by Neymar and Messi blew a kiss to Barcelona supporters who could not stop chanting his name throughout the game.

Messi’s kiss left many wondering, is he waving good-bye to Camp Nou faithful or is he acknowledging the love and affection shown by Barcelona fans despite his erratic behaviour in last few days.

Barcelona have almost progressed through to the Quarter Finals after a demolition job of Elche at Camp Nou with second leg being a mere formality now. Barcelona will face the winner from the tie between Madrid rivals, Atletico and Real. Atletico won the first leg 2-0 against Real Madrid and will have an advantage going in to the second leg at Bernabeu.
