In what can be one of the biggest transfers in recent times, Arsenal star mid-fielder Mesut Ozil is high on the transfer wish list at Barcelona according to recent reports.

Arsenal had a great chance to running away with the Premier League title this season but lack of consistency has seen the club lose ground in the race to the top and it is now looking increasingly un-likely that the Gunners will be able to take any silverware from this season.

One of the star players in the squad, Mesut Ozil has been in sublime form this season, racking up 19 assists in all competitions, the highest in Europe.

He is in contract with the club to play till 2018 but it is now understood that the Catalan giants want to add him to their armory next season.

Barcelona want the German star to add his touch and vision to their game at Camp Nou and are hoping to create a world class group of players in the front line.

However, this will not be an easy transfer to complete, especially with the player’s history of his time at Real Madrid, the arch rivals of the Camp Nou outfit.

Real Madrid who sold Mesut Ozil in 2013 to Arsenal reportedly included various clauses in the transfer agreement that might make it hard for Barcelona to get their hands on the German star.

It is understood that the Bernabeau outfit have an option of first refusal if Arsenal decide to sell the player to a Spanish team in the transfer window.

The English franchise is also expected to lose 33% of the price at which the player is sold if Ozil moves to a Spanish team for a transfer fee above €50m.

However, the Catalan giants are plotting ways in which they can bring the 27-year old to Camp Nou this summer without the intervention of the local rivals.

Barcelona are expecting to take advantage of FIFA’s transfer ban on Real Madrid and are plotting their next move to get the German closer to a move back to Spain.

Ozil, who has reached great heights this season after a sedate start to his career in England is also understood to be un-happy with his current situation at the Emirates is also understood to be keen on a move back to Spain where he enjoyed the best times of his career.

Barcelona are also planning to use Arsenal’s interest in Arda Turan, Munir El Haddadi and Sandro Ramirez and are hoping to use one of these players to reduce the transfer cost of Mesut Ozil.

However, with the Real Madrid history, Ozil may not be too keen on a move to his rivals and may not be welcome at the Camp Nou next summer. But if the move goes through, Barcelona might just have the best front 5 of Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Ozil and Iniesta.

Do you think Ozil will move to Barcelona in the summer?
