The Barclays Premier League once again showed why it is one of the most interesting leagues in the world this weekend. Only Liverpool and City came out of the week with all three points with teams like Arsenal, United, Chelsea and Tottenham were held for draws. There were a number of brilliant individual performances which took the league by a storm.
Jamie Vardy scored the record breaking 11th goal against United as Chelsea were able to take just one point from White Hart Lane. Palace thrashed Newcastle United as Arsenal were held for a 1-1 draw by Norwich City at the Carrow Road. City moved to the top of the table with their 3-1 victory against the Spurs and is equal on points with second placed Leicester City.
Here is the Barclays Premier League Team of the Week for Match-Day 14 with the best players in their positions.
Costel Panitlimon (Sunderland):
Sunderland capped off an impressive display with a 2-0 victory against Stoke City this weekend. Pantilimon was a solid presence for most of the game for the Black Cats in their penalty box and finds a place in our team of the week.
Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool):
Liverpool are known for their shaky defense but Clyne has been an impressive addition to the back line that now looks a bit stronger. He was excellent all night against Swansea in their 1-0 victory as he constantly won the ball on the flank and used his pace to get his team up front in the opposition’s half.
Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur):
The big Belgian was on top form and denied everything that Chelsea threw into his area. He produced a man of the match performance as he kept Chelsea’s threat to a bare minimum for most of the game. He has been excellent for Tottenham this season.
Sebastian Coates (Sunderland):
Coates has found form under Sam Allardyce’s new formation of a back three. He put in a tireless shift against Stoke pulling his second clean sheet in as many games as he continued his solid display from last weekend.
Alexander Kolarov (Manchester City):
The attacking full-back troubled the Saints at the Etihad throughout the game with his marauding runs up and down the left of City back four. He also picked himself a goal in the second half in a fabulous display on the wing for the Citizens in their 3-1 victory.
James McArthur (Crystal Palace):
Stuck twice in Palace’s rout against Newcastle United. He was superb in the mid-field for Pardew’s side as he controlled the tempo of the game giving Newcastle not time on the ball. He also got himself a brace in emphatic the 5-1 victory.
Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City):
The summer signing has taken no time to adjust to the Premier League as he showed in his performance against Southampton with 2 assists for his name in a stellar display on the night. He played in a fluid Pellegrini’s system and was finding space all over the field all throughout the game.
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal):
The best player for Wenger on the night, the German International was involved in everything good happening for the Gunners on the night. He also picked up a goal when he opened the scoring at the Carrow road against Norwich City.
Ross Barkley (Everton):
The England International has been in top form off late and put in a good performance for the Toffees on the night. He scored a late injury time goal that almost sealed the game for Everton against Bournemouth.
Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace):
Newcastle could not handle the Congolese International as he played centrally on the night and picked himself a brace in their 5-1 victory. He was simply un-playable as he ripped apart the opposition defense.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester City):
The record breaker completes out Team of the Week this week. Vardy was lively as always leading the line for Leicester against Manchester United on Saturday. Vardy used his pace to good effect and put the United defense under a lot of pressure after scoring a goal in his 11th consecutive Premier League game. The striker is now a star in the
