Real Madrid manager Rafa Benetiz has confrimed that striker Karim Benzema would stay at santiago Bernabeu next season amid Arsenal interest.
The French international has been heavily linked with the Gunners, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting on Sunday that Gunners have put €65 million aside to sign the 27-year old.
But Arsene Wenger has dismissed the talk with him confirming Arsenal has no interest in the player and now Rafa Benetiz has all but put an end to the transfer speculation over Benzema’s future.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Audi Cup tournament at Allianz Arena, Benitez told reporters: “My answer is that I think Benzema is going to stay with us. I’m very happy with him. There’s no reason to think that he’s going to go.”
Wenger was quoted saying, “No, nothing is happening. Honestly, no. I don’t know who brings that up. Is it Spanish media or English media? I don’t know.”
Benetiz also rubbished all the speculations around Gareth Bale moving back to Premier League.
“Gareth is a huge player for us and I know that he’s happy. I’m not going to talk about offers. Everything is well and he’s going to have a good season with us I’m sure,” he added.
Real Madrid will feature in Audi Cup 2015 at Allianz Arena on 4th and 5th of August. The tournament features Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan besides Real Madrid.
Madrid will face Tottenham Hotspur at Allianz Arena on Tuesday, with the winners playing either the hosts or AC Milan on Wednesday and losers playing third-place play off.
Asked about De Gea, Benitez said: “I’ve said in five previous press conferences that I don’t want to talk about players who are in other teams. We have three very good keepers. I can talk about them, not other goalkeepers.”
