Best and Worst of Liverpool's 2014-15 season

After coming within touching distance to the Barclays Premier League in 2013-14, Liverpool lost Luiz Suarez to Barcelona for a hefty price. But they were not able to replace the Uruguayan in front of goal as they managed almost half the goals they scored in 2013-14 in the next season. They struggled to have a fixed team throughout the season and in the end finished in the 6th spot.

With the new season set to begin this week, Liverpool would want to put all that behind them and start the new season strongly. In this article we shall take a look at the best and the worst moments of the club’s 2014-15 season.

Liverpool’s season was meandering along as they started poorly. But in the middle of the season after the loss to United, the manager seemed to have found the right combination for the team with three at the back. In the next 22 games in all competitions, Liverpool lost just twice in cups and were un-beaten in the Premier League.

Arguably, their best performance last season came against Manchester City at Anfield. They showed some great character as they beat the champions 2-1. A 3-2 victory against Spurs and a 4-0 victory against Swansea were the other games in which the club showed some great performances. A 3-0 victory at the White Hart Lane was also a match to remember for the fans.

Their mammoth game against Middlesbrough which they won 14-13 on penalties was one match that will not be forgotten easily by the fans of the club.

The season as a whole was a disappointment for the club as they crashed out of the Champions League after drawing their last game 1-1 against Basel at home. They also lost twice to Real Madrid in their cameo in the Champions League. These games will be in the minds of the supporters till the club come up with something extraordinary this season.

They lost both their games against rivals Manchester United last season. This would have been a bitter experience for the supporters of the club all around the world. They were humiliated at the Emirates as Arsenal beat them 4-1 in a league game. But the most painful moment for the fans surely was the last game for club legend Steven Gerrard that ended in a 6-1 loss against Stoke away from home.

They also lost the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa. This was also a game that will have hurt many a fans.

The club has made great strides in the transfer market this season and the players will do everything they can to improve on their position in the league this season. Though it would be hard to replace a player like Gerrard, the new signings will hope to fill the void and make sure that the club regains its lost pride.

Make sure you follow your favorite team and cheer for them as they take the field for the first time this season in the first match day of the Premier League this weekend.
