Manchester United and Louis Van Gaal has been left to look elsewhere to sign a key central defender next season as their premier transfer target Stefan De Vrij has squashed every rumor linking with a move to Old Trafford.
De Vrij, 24 is currently playing with Serie A side Lazio who have done exceedingly well and are in contention to finish third to qualify for the Champions League.
De Vrij has previously worked with the manager Louis Van Gaal with the Dutch International side and was tipped to make a move to join Van Gaal like his fellow International teammate Memphis Depay did.
De Vrij has decided to pledge his loyalty to his current club and snub a chance to play for Manchester United. In an interview, De Vrij said: “I’m happy at Lazio and I’ll still be here next year. I hope to play in the Champions League with this shirt, but that doesn’t determine my future.
“If we don’t qualify, it wouldn’t change anything – I want to stay here.
“Here in Rome, I’ve learned a lot and become a better defender. I’m really happy with the choice I made.”
These comments have forced United to look elsewhere to figure a defensive solution for their shaky defense.
