Boost for Chelsea as Koeman admits Lukaku may leave this summer

Antonio Conte has done a really good job in the transfer market having signed most of his top transfer targets.

He has added a top quality midfielder and an exciting striker to the Chelsea squad from the last season and will go into the season as a stronger unit.

However, the manager is still in search of a lost possession in Romelu Lukaku who is extensively linked with an audacious move back to the Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian was not able to impress the Blues in a stint in London but was an instant hit at the Goodison Park where he secured a permanent move for a club-record fee last summer.

However, Antonio Conte now wants to add him to his squad ahead of the next season. The only thing stopping the move according to reports is Everton’s stubbornness to get let the player leave.

Ronald Koeman, in a recent interview ahead of his first game at Everton, revealed that the 23-year old will miss the game this weekend due to an injury.

“Lukaku is doubtful [on Saturday] because of the cut from the Espanyol game,” Koeman said in an interview.

However, when he was asked about his future with the club, the former Southampton manager revealed that he would like to keep hold of the player for the next season but that it was not completely up to him to keep him at the Merseyside.

“He is still an Everton player but finally, the board makes that kind of decisions,” Koeman said.

“Of course, I would like to keep all my best players but I know football. I know the business. Let’s wait.

However, he went on to say that much like the star defender John Stones’ move to Manchester City, he cannot guarantee Lukaku’s place at the club come the end of the transfer window.

“The club is doing everything to keep all the players we’d like to keep in the team,” he added.

With reports also suggesting that Lukaku wants to hand in a transfer request, it now seems like his move to Chelsea which looked cold for almost a week now may yet be on the cards.
