Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta have snubbed a massive €35 million per year deal from Chinese League clubs, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish media outlet AS claims that the 32-year old had offers from two different Chinese clubs for a move to Far East but the midfield maestro decided to stay put with the Catalan club.
Iniesta, who will be 33 in summer, is yet to commit his future to Barcelona as the club are ready to offer him a new two year deal. The Spanish international has a contract with Blaugrana till 2018.
The club is keen to keep him till 2019 as he will be 35 by the end of his contract before he can make a decision on his future. A move away to China will not be ideal for Iniesta who is also keen to play in 2018 World Cup and will remain in contention for a place in the national team as long as he stays with Barcelona.
The major concern for Iniesta over committing his future to Barcelona is the amount of playing time he will be getting in the next seasons. He has so far managed only 1390 minutes which amounts to only 40% of total time played by the club this season so far.
The 32-year old has recently said: “Anyone can guess but I have been clear about this, my renewal. Now the only thing I am worried about is our title aims. After the season we will review everything, both personal and the club’s side, and that’s it.”
“I am not saying I won’t renew my contract. I want to finish my career here but that will be decided by my performances on the pitch and my feelings. I won’t stay here if I am not important for the club. That’s clear,” he added.
Iniesta still remains their most reliable midfielder as Barca’s midfield has not been up to the mark this season as Luis Enrique has failed to use the best of his resources. It remains to be seen whether Iniesta would be given more playing time during the business end of the season.
