According to Mirror, Arsenal are plotting a shocking move for former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans who is currently at West Bromwich Albion.
The Northern Irish international is expected to fill the void left by injured Per Mertesacker at the centre of the pitch with the German set to miss the entire year.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly willing to make £15million offer for West Brom as he is keen to add more depth to his defense in the absence of their experienced defender.
The 28-year old has moved from Old Trafford last year seeking first team football and has been very impressive at West Brom throughout the season as he made 34 appearances for the Baggies last season.
Evans featured both as centre-back and left-back during the course of the season and have been impressive under Tony Pulis last season.
Evans continued his fantastic form with Northern Ireland national team as they made their way to the knock-out rounds before eventually losing to Wales.
Jonny Evans bid comes as a shock to many observers but Wenger is keen as he feels the defender could excel at Emirates as the search for a quality defender continues. Arsenal have been linked with German defenders Muustafi and Jonas Hector as Wenger is clearly willing to sign a defender heading into the new season.
