BREAKING – Manchester United suffer major transfer setback, key target extends his La Liga contract

One of the most promising central defenders and Manchester United target Aymeric Laporte has extended his current contract with Athletic Bilbao. Laported has signed a new 4-year deal with the La Liga side which would keep him at the club until 2020.

This has dealt severe blow to Manchester United’s hopes of signing the promising defender. As per the reports from Marca, Bilbao have put a release clause of €50million. Louis Van Gaal is desperate to bring some key defenders to sure up the most fragile part of United’s play, defense.

Manchester United are in advance talks with Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi, who has already confirmed his current side about his desires to join the Old Trafford outfit. Laporte, 21 was eyed as the perfect player to be United’s long-term defensive solution.

As per various reports, Jonny Evans is all set to leave the club during the transfer window giving way to a new signings in the summer.

With Laporte set to stay at Bilbao, United must look at the other options available to them. Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now and given the fact that the 28-year old player would come on a free transfer, he is seen as the ideal man to add to United’s defensive strengths.
