Arsenal will heave a huge sigh of relief to tie down two of the most important players of the team. Speculations were rife about Giroud’s future at the club after falling down the pecking order after Arsene Wenger’s decision to play Alexis Sanchez in the main striker role this season. The France international has started just two games this season and was linked with a January move to AC Milan but Arsenal will be mighty pleased to hand him an extension as they look to maintain their title challenge.
On the other hand, Coquelin, who extended his deal early last year some impressive outings during the second half of the 2015/16 campaign, will have a huge to play this term as Santi Cazorla has been ruled out for three months.
The Gunners are currently in the Premier League and have secured their passage in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League and both the players will be vital to Arsenal’s chances.
The French news outlet also claimed that centre-back Laurent Koscielny is also in advanced stage of contract talks with the club that will see him staying at the Emirates until 2020. The France international’s partnership with Shkodran Mustafi has played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s impressive form this term.
Meanwhile, there is still no good news regarding the contract of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. Both the players are in negotiations for quite some time now but the club officials are not willing to bow down to their wage demands which have raised speculations around their future at the club.
Earlier this week, Arsenal general secretary David Miles said that the talks over a new contract have been going in a positive direction.
Miles said: “Of course, we know talks are ongoing with certain players and certain contracts.
“At the moment, things are looking pretty good in that way.”
Well, the North London outfit will be desperate to tie down the two players who have been their best performers in recent seasons. However, if they do not hand them a new deal quickly, Ozil and Sanchez might join the long list of the players who have left the Emirates in their prime in recent seasons.
