The Premier League is known for the plethora of talent available locally for every club to borrow. The domestic football circuit in England is pretty strong and it explains why there is lots of competition for every place in the squad.

Just an year ago, Stoke City keeper Jack Butland started just 2 Premier League games all season and was benched most of the time at the Britannia. However, he is now set to represent England in the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Netherlands.

Joe Hart the undisputed number 1 for the three lions is missing these games due to an injury he picked up in the Manchester derby and this has given Butland a chance to prove himself over the his Manchester City counterpart.

Joe Hart who is out with a calf injury now has plenty of competition for his place from Butland and Fraser Forster of Southampton. And the injury has seen Butland get a chance to prove himself.

The 23-year old recently spoke to the media about his place in the national side and opened up about the competition for the place in England’s squad.

He acknowledged that he is happy to get a chance in the national squad for these big games but added that Forster is also deserving of this place.

“Challenging Joe’s position is the bracket I want to be in, but then Fraser has come back and kept six clean sheets, so you think ‘here we go!’ he said.

He revealed that Hart has cemented the place as his own and said that he and Forster are waiting for opportunities like these to get back into the good books of the manager.

Butland also revealed that he spoke to Hart after his injury and hoped that he would recover from it as quickly as possible. He added that he has a lot of respect for the Manchester City player and that he is one of the best players in the world.

“I just hope it is not too bad and that he gets back soon. You all have respect for each other because it is a hard position to play.”

He added, “He’s right up there and he is one of the best in the world. Whether it is watching on TV or training with him with England there are always things to learn.”

Butland has been subject to interests from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United and the 23-year old also spoke about his future. He revealed that he is happy at the Britannia at the moment and said that the squad they have at the club can achieve great things.

“It’s getting to the level of a club where I want to be at, with quality players coming up who have won Champions Leagues and played for Barcelona,”

“The club is making a big statement with those signings and it is a club that is on the way up,” he added.
