Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he would have loved to manage Manchester United if Real Madrid hadn’t appointed him. Ancelotti was offered to take the managerial post at the Old Trafford in 2013 when Carlo was having lunch with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, reports The Sun. But in the end, Manchester United ended up bringing in David Moyes as Ancelotti turned Fergie’s offer down and headed to the Bernabeu instead.
Although the former Real Madrid boss admits that Manchester United’s offer was very appealing and interesting and it became more interesting due to the face-to-face conversation with the great Sir Alex. But it wasn’t United’s destiny, so eventually, the Red Devils ended up with David Moyes’s reign, who was a flop at Old Trafford. Forget about repeating what Sir Alex did, Moyes broke some records which Sir Alex couldn’t break, Moyes hit some of the worst figures by Manchester United in their entire history. Ancelotti’s decision cost Manchester United very heavily, as they are still struggling to grab a Champions League spot and are in search of a good manager.
The 56-year-old Italian told The Times : “[It was] a nice lunch. Alex chose the wine, really expensive.
“[But] I had already spoken to Real Madrid. For the experience, a manager has to go to Madrid.
“If it hadn’t been for that, I would have come, 100 percent.”
