Leicester City’s fairytale in the last season had three players at the forefront.
Jamie Vardy scored the goals while Riyad Mahrez created them but one N’ Golo Kante was arguably the most important part of the title winnings squad with his services to the club in the midfield.
Claudio Ranieri revealed that he hopes all his players from the previous season stay at the club for their adventure in Europe and he has already managed to extend Jamie Vardy’s contract amid interests from London club Arsenal.
However, the manager will be disappointed if he loses his prized possession but it now looks more and more likely that the French midfielder, the lynchpin of the Foxes last season will not play at the King Power next season.
According to reports from French newspaper Le Parisien, London-based club Chelsea are ready to swoop for the midfielder with a deal that is understood to be close to €35m.
It was revealed that the player has in the past rejected a lucrative £100,000 a week contract extension at the King Power which will make him the highest-paid player at the club but it is understood that Kante is on the verge of making the move to the capital.
The release clause of the player is said to be around £26 million but Chelsea are desperate to get their man and are ready to pay well in excess of his clause to add him to the squad at the Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte, who is set to officially be announced by Chelsea in the coming days has seemingly been impressed by the French international’s exploits last season and also in the EUROs that recently ended.
And it is understood that he is not thinking twice about meeting his valuation that may be a bit on the high side for a player who has proved himself in just the one season.
Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel are the two players in this position at Chelsea and with Conte playing a three-man defense at the club next season, only one player has a chance to play regular football and Conte reportedly wants N’ Golo Kante to take that place.
At his price, Kante will be under pressure to perform and though Leicester City are throwing their last dice at the player by offering him lucrative wages, it looks like Kante will sport the blue of Chelsea next season.
These reports were further strengthened after tweets from a reliable source did the rounds on the social media website.
So do you think Kante will be a good fit at Chelsea next season?
