Chelsea defender Abdul Baba Rahman is set to join German outfit FC Schalke on a season-long loan as he seeks regular first team football.
The 22-year old Ghanian international has joined Chelsea last season from Augsburg in a deal worth around £21million. However, Baba failed to make an impact during the last season as he was confined to only 11 league starts in the entire season.
New manager Antonio Conte has decided to send the player on loan after he was considered as surplus to his requirements heading into the new season.
The manager is keen to send a player on loan as Schalke manager Markus Weinzierl could offer the defender more regular football which could help in the player’s progress.
The Ghanian believes he could kick-start his career again at Schalke as he was left on the bench during their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.
It is learnt that Rahman would fly out to Germany to undergo a medical and sign a contract with German Blues in the next 24 hours.
Rahman was considered as a potential replacement to Chelsea’s ageing wing-backs as he has shown a lot of potential during his time at Augsburg which helps the German club clinch European football.
The 22-year old could very well break into Chelsea starting XI in the upcoming years as he is definitely one of the most exciting wing-backs in entire Europe.
