Barcelona are joining the race to sign Monaco’s Chelsea target Bernardo Silva.
21-year-old Bernardo Silva, has been in extraordinary form in the French league over the last two seasons since joining from Portuguese side Benfica and this term netted 3 goals in 23 matches.
Monaco’s star performer is now considered a highly-rated bargain at £21million, while several European clubs desperately looking to bring him in while his current contract at the Stade Luis II is set to expire in June 2020.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are leading the race to complete a transfer come January while Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to lure the player to Stamford Bridge. Two other Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus are also reportedly weighing up a bid to sign the youngster this January.
Chelsea boss Mourinho is expected to make big spending over the winter transfer window in an effort to turn around his defending champion’s shocking start to the season.
The Blues right now sit 16th in the Premier League table, having lost eight of their 15 league matches. They face Leicester City today and if Mourinho’s men succumb to another defeat it would again plunge them back into crisis and also closer to the relegation zone, given that it would be a second successive Premier League defeat. If the defending champions win, however, it will be their first big away victory of this season. Mourinho himself looking very relaxed again, a reflection of how the increasing anxiety has suddenly eased after qualifying for the Champions League last 16. Chelsea now just need to sustain proper pressure on Leicester.
The Portuguese manager signed Barcelona winger Pedro in January spending just over £21m and it is now suggested the La Liga giants are also looking for a replacement.
Barcelona have been unable to sign any players in 2015 as FIFA imposed a worldwide transfer ban on the Spanish club.
That ban will be lifted in January, with Barca manager Luis Enrique desperate to make up for lost time. Barcelona are interested in Celta Vigo star Nolito also, who is reportedly linked to Arsenal. However, the 29-year-old sustained a thigh injury over the weekend and will have a scan today to assess the extent of the injury.
