Chelsea Make Second Offer, Conte Desperate To Finalise Deal On Deadline Day

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side are currently on a high having opened up an 8 point gap over Arsenal in the second place in the points table.

The manager will be relatively pleased with the way his side have performed this season and will hope that they can stay strong till the final game but he will know that his squad might need a couple of additions in key areas to keep up the good work.

This has seen Chelsea linked with some star players recently and one such player who Conte is desperate to land before deadline day is Celtic shot-stopper, Craig Gordon.

Thibaut Courtois, the first choice shot-stopper at the club is in fine form this season and though is linked with an exit at the end of the season, is currently settled at the Stamford Bridge.

However, backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is at the other end of the spectrum.

He has been receiving offers from Premier League clubs, most notably from AFC Bournemouth and Antonio Conte is now determined to let him go to allow him regular game time and is now in the transfer market for a shot-stopper late in the window.

It is understood that Eddie Howe is desperate for the signature of Begovic and Conte is ready to sanction a move after he gets hold of Gordon this month.

The 34-year old has been a main stay for the Scottish Champions this season but Conte is determined to land the experienced international who will act as a backup for Courtois for the rest of the season.

He has been in tremendous form for Celtic this season and naturally, Brendan Rodgers is not ready to let him go this month.

He is planning to offer the 34-year old a new contract to keep him at the club amid interests from Manchester.

Chelsea have already made an initially bid for the star which was rejected but with the Cherries ready to pay upto £10m for Begovic, Conte is ready to spend on Gordon this month.

And reports from the BBC suggest that they have made a new renewed bid of £.5m which can rise up to £4m with bonuses over the next few years.

The Chelsea manager though is ready to let Begovic go, it is understood that he will not sanction a move if Gordon and Celtic decide to reject their second offer.

Do you think Craig Gordon is a decent option for Chelsea?
