Chelsea has been handed a big boost in their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj as reports are suggesting that the player would be made available in the January transfer window.
The Goal has reported that the Croatia international is one of the two midfielders that Antonio Conte is planning to sign once the transfer window reopens. The 27-year old is predominantly a defensive midfielder but he can also play as a centre-back, something that will attract Conte considering the fact that John Obi Mikel is not in his plans. He can also fill in as the centre-back as John Terry is set to leave after this term while Branislav Ivanovic is going through a poor form.
However, Chelsea is set to face a stiff challenge if they want to secure the signings of the versatile player as AC Milan and AS Roma are also interested in signing the player/
Meanwhile, Badelj, who still has 18 months left on his current contract has downplayed the rumours linking him with a January exit.
He said: “I understand the press want to speculate, they have a right to do that, but I find it funny that people talk about transfers so far away from the window.
“I still have one-and-a-half-years left on my contract with Fiorentina – why wouldn’t I stay here until the end?
“I have no problem with that. The thing that bothers me most are the stories that say I’m unhappy in Florence, which is not true.”
The other midfielder linked with the Blues in Inter Milan ace Geoffrey Kondogbia. The Serie A giants have reportedly made up their decision on selling the France international as they are set to make him available for a loan, as well as a permanent transfer in the upcoming window.
