Premier League champions Chelsea FC are all set to place a fresh and improved bid of £26 million for 20-year-old Everton center back John Stones. The Blues had earlier placed a of £20 million but the Toffees apparently rejected the bid. Roberto Martinez and the Everton officials ahd claimed a few weeks back that they will not sell John Stones.
Stones had a fantastic season with Everton last season. He played week in week out alongside Phil Jagielka and grew up to be one of the best upcoming defenders in Europe. Thus, Chelsea became interested in the player and consider him as a long term replacement of club legend John Terry who is 34 now.
According to Daily Mirror, Everton will yet again reject Chelsea’s £26million bid. It is believed that the club might only release the player if £34million is offered.
Chelsea will play their first big game of the season when they take on FA Cup winners Arsenal in the FA Community Shield on Sunday, 2nd August. Joe Mourinho will look forward to roping in the young defender within that time. They already have Kurt Zouma in their squad who showed great potential last season. With Stones’ arrival the the backline of Chelsea will be secured for another 10, 12 years.
The defending champions will face stiff competition from rivals Manchester United who are also believed to be interested in the player, according to media reports.
