According to reports in Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Italian giants AC Milan are all set to offer their defender Alessio Romagnoli a new deal.
The young centre-back was heavily linked with English giants Chelsea during the summer as Blues boss Antonio Conte was looking to bolster his attack. The West London club lodged a whopping bid of £35 million for the player only to get disappointed as the Italian outfit refused to sell their prized asset.
An official statement was later released on the Italian club’s website, stating: “AC Milan has received a significant offer for its player Alessio Romagnoli from Chelsea FC. The player is not for sale, therefore this negotiation will not continue. The club wants to thank Chelsea FC with whom we will continue to have a great working relationship.”
The 21-year-old joined Milan from Roma for £21 million last summer after impressing on loan with Sampdoria.
The Blues boss’ first choice was Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly but after missing out on him he turned his attentions to Milan centre-back. And after a lot of disappointment in the transfer market for a defender, Chelsea finally secured the services of fan-favourite David Luiz from French champions Paris St-Germain and versatile left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina.
