According to latest reports, Chelsea joined the race to sign the young defender Marquinhos from Paris-Saint Germain. The defender was tracked by Manchester United for most part of the season and Chelsea are latest to join the race for the services of the young Brazilian.
Chelsea are looking for a long term solution for their aging centre defender John Terry who is now 35. The Blues’ skipper will be offered a new contract of 12-months long at the end of the season after his improved performances this season.
So far PSG have refused to sell the young defender as he remains an integral part in their plans for the seasons ahead. Louis van Gaal is expected to launch a bid of around £30m at the end of the season. The Dutch boss is quite impressed with the young defender after the reports from his scouts.
Chelsea’s boss Mourinho have originally considered that the young defender is too expensive for his skills, but after an impressive showing in their Champions League clash against Chelsea, the Portuguese boss is now ready to bid for the defender.
Marquinhos has three years left in his contract and PSG are looking to make a strong statement as they are trying to make the young Brazilian sign a new deal. A PSG official said, “PSG know there are some big English clubs trying to buy Marquinhos but, for now, they would prefer not to sell him. He is an important player.”
PSG brought the defender for a reported £30m back in 2013 from AS Roma where he excelled making 26 appearances for Roma in his debut season.
