Chelsea turn to Torino man after being rejected in approach for Koulibaly

Chelsea and Antonio Conte have a lot of work to do to the squad at Stamford Bridge, especially with the new manager set to use a completely different system at the club next season.

The manager uses a three-at-the-back formation that needs three top-quality centre backs which the Chelsea squad lacks at the moment. The likes of Gary Cahill and John Terry are the only two recognized senior center backs in the squad the moment while Kurt Zouma is currently out injured.

This has seen the manager make a £38m bid for the Napoli center back Kalidou Koulibaly for a move this summer. However, two days since the bid, it now looks like Conte will not be able to get his man this summer and has now turned his attention elsewhere.

Recent reports now suggest that Chelsea have added Torino centre-back Nikola Maksimovic to their list of defensive targets.

A versatile player who can play as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, Maksimovic is one of the most exciting defenders at his age in Europe at the moment.

His stint with the Italian side has seen him establish himself as a decent defender and it is now revealed that Conte wants to add the 24-year old to his squad this summer.

The Serbian international has also attracted interests from Premier League club West Ham United earlier in the transfer window but it is now understood that Chelsea may get their hands on the defender this summer.

Standing at 6’ 4”, Maksimovic is a player whose style of play resembles the Premier League closely and he will hardly take any time to adjust to the English domestic league. He will add some mettle to the Chelsea back line and will help them compete with the best next season.

He is expected to cost around £18.5m, a price that Chelsea will hardly have a problem meeting this summer. However, it is to be seen if Antonio Conte believes that the 24-year old is worth his price tag and a place in the starting XI at the Bridge.

But considering the Koulibaly snub, the Serbian international may just be the only viable option at the moment in the transfer market.

Do you think Chelsea should move for Maksimovic this summer?
