Chelsea vs Everton predicted lineups: Pedro Dropped, Matic returns

Tapan Jindal / 15 January 2016

Chelsea take on Everton in a matchup which will have a great impact on their respective seasons. Both the club languish in mid table even when the season brought with it a promise like no other in recent years. Both are tied for wins but Everton have more tied matches resulting in their slightly higher position over Chelsea in the table. Hiddink will be looking for nothing else except a win against the Merseyside club who have been abysmal in defence and will try to pry open the Chelsea defence with their array of skilled attackers.

Here is the lineup we believe Chelsea will send out to take revenge for the 3-1 loss at Goodison Park:

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

The number 13 is the undisputed number one in the Chelsea side and was given ample rest ahead of the double match-week by being dropped to the bench for the FA Cup tie.

Left Back: Cesar Azpilicueta

Azpi or Dave has been the most solid member of Chelsea’s defence over the season and has been in decent goalscoring form too as he just converted a Branislav Ivanovic cross against West Brom in an impressive display over the Baggies.

Centre Back: John Terry

The captain will be unmoved after a decent outing against the Baggies. He will be expected to make a greater contribution towards the organisation and clearances after the two farcical goals conceded to the Midlands club.

Centre Back: Kurt Zouma

Joint for the best defender in the Chelsea squad is this impressive young beast who has been notching one stunning tackle after another against quick forwards. He will be a definite inclusion in the squad.

Right Back: Branislav Ivanovic

His selection would have been contentious had he not been the supplier of opening goals against the opposition for two matches in a row. His defensive flaws will be a compromise for a decent attacking form for the Serbian.

Central Midfielder: Nemanja Matic

Matic has been a pillar in the squad due to Hiddink’s arrival.

Central Midfielder: Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas is back in form and is pinging balls for fun all over the pitch. His link-up with Costa will be something to watch out for over the remaining season.

Left Winger: Kenedy

With Eden out due to injury and Pedro assisting West Brom for a goal in the previous match, the youngster will be expected to start as he is in fine form at the moment.

Attacking Midfielder: Ruben Loftus-Cheek

As Oscar was largely ineffective over the last couple of matches, another youngster might get a chance and replace the Brazilian like he did against Scunthorpe. His physical prowess will definitely factor in too against the likes of Barry and Pienaar.

Right Winger: Willian

This position is in an ultimate hold for the most lethal free kick taker in Europe at the moment. Afro has gone off the boil over the last few matches but will be expected to be up and running against the side he shoved away with a 25 yard scorcher in the last minute for the previous fixture.

Striker: Diego Costa

Costa is back and back with a vengeance. He is increasingly looking like the monster he was during the first half of last season and has been bagging goals for fun since Hiddink’s arrival. He will be expected to make a nuisance of himself against one of the most porous defences of the league.
