Chelsea’s standout academy star Charly Musonda revealed that a host of Premier League clubs have been monitoring him before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea has one of the strongest football academies in the country and have often produced some star players like John Terry in the past.
Charly Musonda is one such player who has been loaned out to Real Betis in January.
The 19-year old has been one of the best products of the academy in recent times and has won the FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League in his time at the club’s academy.
He is a versatile mid-fielder who is confident on the ball and has shown loads of potential in his time in Spain.
In a recent interview, he claimed that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United were interested in signing him recently.
He has been superb in his stint in Spain and has blossomed into a superb player and will surely help the Stamford Bridge club in their search for a young mid-mid-fielder.
Talking to Het Nieuwsblad, Musonda revealed that Jose Mourinho was the reason behind his move to Real Betis and explained that though a lot of teams were after him, a loan move away from the league was the best option for the player.
“It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea,” Musonda added.
Musonda is expected to be the subject of a transfer battle between a number of clubs in the Premier League but the 19-year old said that he was only concentrating on his game irrespective of the club and the league he is playing in.
He said, “Only one thing matters to me – playing! Whether I return [to Chelsea] or not.
He also revealed that a number of clubs from Europe are also interested in his services and said that he did not want to return back to Belgium after his time in England.
“There was interest from France, Netherlands. My ex-coach Yannick Ferrera, who I speak to a lot, wanted me at Standard, but I did not want to return to Belgium. And in the end I joined Betis,” he added.
The Stamford Bridge outfit will be hoping that Musonda will turn out to be more than a handy squad player and they will hope that the trust the club has shown in him will be repaid in years to come.
