The Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf has revealed that there were interests from Arsenal , Manchester United, and Chelsea during his golden era of 22 years. But during his time in Holland, Italy, and Spain, the midfielder was crowned as the UEFA Champions League winner four times in his glittering career, thus, a high-profile switch to any of the above-mentioned clubs never happened.
According to The Sun Seedorf said: “I had many opportunities to play in England — but something always came up.” “I was going to go from Sampdoria to Arsenal but then I went to Real Madrid. “After Madrid, I talked with Manchester United and then Chelsea after Milan. “But it never happened — you can’t have everything.”
Seedorf is the only player to win the Champions League medal with three different clubs from three different leagues. Winning the top prize of European Football even once is a dream for every footballer, but Seedorf showed that one can achieve anything anywhere with right attitude and determination. Before winning the Champions League with Madrid and AC Milan, Seedorf won it for Ajax, by beating AC Milan 1-0 in the final. Seedorf was a key player in Louis Van Gaal’s Ajax side in 1995 final.
Before retiring in 2014, Seedorf played for the Brazilian side Botafogo. Later the 40-year-old was approached to take over as the boss of AC Milan, but Seedorf’s spell at the San Siro didn’t last much long, after just five months he had to quit his job. Rumors are, QPR and Newcastle were trying to lure him. The 87 cap holder for Holland has finally agreed that he had a great desire to play in England, he can still do it by managing a Premier League club.
Seedorf said: “I would have loved to play in the Premier League. “It was always something that I dreamed of — but maybe I can still enjoy it as a coach. “I was really happy with my career. I don’t think that missed anything, other than playing the Premier League.”
