Sinisa Mihajlovic was relieved of his duties as the AC Milan coach by the club authorities, the Italian football giants announced on Tuesday.

He will be replaced by youth coach Cristian Brocchi.

The club acted after a disappointing campaign this season which sees them placed at the sixth place on the points table with six matches left. They have accumulated only 49 points from 32 matches while leaders Juventus have 76.

“Sinisa Mihajlovic has been relieved of his role as AC Milan coach. The club would like to thank Mihajlovic for the dedication and hard work carried out this season,” said a statement on the club’s official website.

“Cristian Brocchi will now be in charge of the first team until the end of the season. AC Milan would like to welcome Mr. Brocchi and wish him all the best,” the statement added.

“Thanks for all the love, it was an honour,” tweeted Mihajlovic on Tuesday.

The Serbian was roped in as Filippo Inzaghi’s replacement last year in June. He had a contract until June 30, 2017.
