Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has expressed his desire to stay with Gunners for the upcoming season as he looks to fight for his place in the squad.
The Colombian international is currently playing as No.2 to legendary Petr Cech who moved from Chelsea to Arsenal last season. Ospina was restricted to just four Premier League starts in the past 12 months since the arrival of Petr Cech.
The 27-year old has been linked with a move to Turkish club Besiktas but he turned down the speculations surrounding his future.
“I have a contract with Arsenal, I’m happy with the team,” Ospina told the Evening Standard.
“We are fighting for the top of the league. Now we have two weeks until we start the season. These friendlies serve us very well.”
Ospina has been key to Arsenal when Petr Cech was injured during the second half of the season as the Colombian made a string of impressive performances which kept Arsenal in the title hunt as they eventually finished in second place last season.
Besiktas president Fikret Orman expressed his interest in Ospina earlier but has to look elsewhere as Wenger is not keen to let the star leave Emirates.
“Arsenal want a lot for him so we may have to look for alternatives,” Fikret Orman said. “I do want Ospina and we are going to get a foreign keeper.”
