In a breaking news coming from Spanish newspaper Marca, it has been reported that David De Gea has signed his contract extension with Manchester United. De Gea has put a long standing saga to rest by committing his future at Old Trafford.

This news comes as a huge blow for Real Madrid, who were hoping to sign David De Gea in the next summer transfer window.

Ever since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011-12 season, De Gea has been constantly evolving his game. Manchester United stopper was criticised for his lean body and lack of presence in the penalty box. Since then he has gone on to become one of the best goal keepers in the world.

The biggest sign of De Gea’s improvement has been the relentless efforts from Real Madrid to sign De Gea over the last 12-18 months. Real Madrid had viewed De Gea as the potential replacement for soon-to-leave Iker Cassilas.

Manchester United fans were worried with no clear word being released on De Gea’s future at Old Trafford but as it turns out now, as per Marca, David De Gea has officially signed his contract extension. It is expected that, De Gea’s new deal will run till 2020 and has made him the highest earning goalkeeper in the world.

De Gea’s new contract comes as a massive boost for United fans and Louis Van Gaal who sees the Spanish keeper as a vital member of his squad. Having secured the services of perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world, Van Gaal now can go on a rampage and sign 2-3 world class defenders which will really make United’s claim for next season’s title even greater.
