This is not your everyday rumour that has come from some random Italian or Spanish news outlet. This is realy huge news that is coming from the ever-reliable BBC.
According to the report Manchester United have held talks with Jose Mourinho’s representatives and the Portuguese is increasingly hopeful of getting the Old Trafford seat.
Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December and at the time Van Gaal’s United woes had started. United had a good start to the season and were sitting pretty near the top of the table but their results towards the month of December were disappointing and United fans have been calling for the dismissal of Van Gaal since.
It is unlikely that Manchester United will sack Van Gaal before the season ends but it is also unlikely that he will stay at United beyond the season and Manchester United need to bring in a big-name coach, specially after arch-rivals Manchester City announced the appointment of Pep Guardiola.
The report also adds that no agreement has been reached, and the club have made no comment, but negotiations have begun and Mourinho is excited by the prospect of managing Manchester United.
Mourinho’s arrival will mean that the rivalry between Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will also revive. The only problem for Mourinho might be Manchester United’s absence from the premier competition of European football – The UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United fans wouldn’t be unhappy with the idea of Jose Mourinho managing the club. Atleast that’s what some of the scarfs outside Old Trafford indicated. But they might not get their wish of seeing Manchester United play attacking football.
Incidentally, Mourinho’s ex-club Chelsea and potential new club Manchester United face-off in the Premier League on Sunday at the Stamford Bridge. Manchester United will be looking to carry on their winning streak while Chelsea will hope they can continue their unbeaten run under Guus Hiddink.
