Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has officially released Togolese international striker Emmanuel Adebayor from his contract.

They confirmed the news today on their official website. The statement read: “We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Emmanuel Adebayor which will see him released from his contract with the Club.”

The news was also conveyed via Tottenham’s twitter account. The statement read:

Adebayor had joined Tottenham Hotspur in the 2011-12 season on loan from Manchester City. After scoring 17 goals in that season for Spurs, the club bought the player in the succeeding season.

The 31-year-old forward’s form took a dip since 2013 and the club had bought Roberto Soldado from Villarreal who could take up the main striker’s role. In the last season, the club found a talisman in Harry Kane who became the second highest scorer in the league. Tottenham finished in the fifth position in the league.

The North London side wanted to sell the player during the transfer window but due to his wage demands none of the clubs could afford him. Now Tottenham has finally released the player making him a free agent now.

Emmanuel Adebayor has previously played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid on loan.
