The former World Cup winner looks all set to be Salman Khan and Wadhawan group’s FC Pune City’s marquee player as per reports from Goal.com
The Frenchman has played for Italian giants Juventus and also played for Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina on loan from River Plate scoring 7 goals in 24 appearances. His contract is set to expire in December 2014 and it’s been reported that he has not had the best of relationships with coach Fernando Cavenaghi of River Plate.
All these point towards the possibility of David Trezeguet to be a part of the inaugural edition of India’s latest football phenomenon, the Indian Super League [ISL].
River Plate president, Rodolfo D’Onofrio was quoted two days ago stating “Trezeguet is an example as an athlete and for his love for River. Our desire is for him to continue at the club, not as a player,”.
Such quotes all indicate towards the end of David Trezeguet’s playing career and if he intends to keep playing on a professional level he might have to switch over to the Indian Super League [ISL].
David Trezeguet has 34 goals in 71 appearances for France and he was a part of the 1998 World Cup winning side alongside the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry. Trezeguet also has the honorable distinction of scoring the golden goal in the Euro 2000 triumph against Italy in the final sealing the Euro 2000 title for France.
With the Indian Super League gaining momentum in full flow and many big names have been linked as marquee signings likes Robert Pires, William Gallas, Adrian Mutu, Mikael Silvestre, Dwight Yorke, Freddie Ljungberg , Craig Bellamy, Alessandro Nesta, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Andy Cole, Angelos Charisteas and even Arne Friedrich.
