Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has agreed to join MLS side New York City at the end of current season. Pirlo was linked to a Premier League switch with Chelsea and Liverpool tipped to make a move for the World Cup winner.
Pirlo will join Frank Lampard at New York City, who joined the MLS side from Chelsea only to return to Premier League to play for Manchester City.
However, Pirlo has opted to join the MLS side New York City and continue his playing career. Earlier in the week, Pirlo was heard praising the Premier League and describing it as the best league in the world despite their recent Champions League failure.
Despite his love for the English game, Pirlo has snubbed the opportunity to make his final move in the Premier League. Pirlo has been in outstanding form this season for Juventus as the Italian great has already won the double (Serie A and Copa Italia) and will be playing against Barelona in the Champions League final to complete the treble.
It will be an amazing feat for the soon to be 37-year old player. Pirlo is a two-time Champions League winner with AC Milan and will be gunning for his first European triumph with Juventus.
Serie A champions are close to signing Sami Khedira from Real Madrid as the apt replacement for the departing Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus are facing an uphill task of keeping Paul Pogba at the club and are also battling to convince Arturo Vidal to stay at Turin beyond this season.
