Borja Fernandez was one of the biggest success stories to have come out of Indian Premier League’s inaugural season. Post the Indian Super League season, Borja Fernandez has capped a new feather by joining La Liga side Eibar.
Eibar announced Borja’s signing on their official Twitter feed.
Borja Fernandez, who is a former graduate of Real Madrid Youth system and made his competitive La Liga debut for Los Blancos. Borja only managed to play only 23 games for Real Madrid. Borja was then loaned out to Mallorca where he made bulk of his 187 La Liga appearances.
After impressing in the winning Indian Super League season with Atletico De Kolkata, Borja attracted interest from the La Liga sides and now Eibar have acted swiftly and signed Atletico De Kolkata’s Borja Fernandez.
Borja has already took part in couple of the training sessions at Eibar on Wednesday since returning from his holidays in Spain. Borja will join the La Liga outfit and will be available for selection once the winter break is over in January.
Making their return to the top flight, Eibar has been the surprise package in this season’s La Liga. Eibar are ranked 9th in La Liga and Borja would look to carry his form for Atletico De Kolakata and add crucial mid field creativity to Eibar’s play.
Borja played 16 games in ISL Season 1, scoring a memorable long range volleyed goal against Mumbai FC and creating 2 goals for his side. Borja’s move to Eibar is the second high profile transfer to have taken place since Indian Super League’s first season. John Mendoza’s move to Corinthians was the first eye catchy transfer post the ISL phenomenon.
