The Premier League title may have slipped out of the hands of Brendan Rodgers‘ Liverpool but the Liverpool boss showed no signs of disappointment in his final press-conference of the season. The relatively young Reds boss looked rather satisfied with his team after an incredibly over-achieving and spirited campaign.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo Brendan Rodgers said, “This is only the beginning for us. This season isn’t a one-off. I think there is an easy gauge on that. You only have to look at our progress.”
Speaking about their dream-run in the Premier League this season, “This will be arguably the best run at a title the club has had for 24 years. Steven Gerrard is 33 years of age and this is the closest he has got to winning it. This is his first real sample of a title run-in and he will be even better next season.
Rodgers’ focused on the positives taken from the campign ,”Think of the experiences these players will have had. Just think what Raheem Sterling is going to be like, what Jon Flanagan is going to be like, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen, Philippe Coutinho…”
Flop – Iago Aspas
The Spaniard who joined from Spanish side Celta Vigo in the summer the 26 year old never really settled into the Premier League. Just 14 appearances in the league and the more shocking stat is that he has mustered just 2 shots all season. Mostly reserved to an impact player from the bench, Aspas never really lived up to the high standards set by the other Liverpool strikers. Rumors about a move away from Anfield circle his career and with such a disappointing season at the age of 26, it doesn’t look all that bad for either party.
Star – Luis Suarez
Who else? The Uruguayan has looked a class apart all season His 31 goals this season have more than propelled Liverpool from 7th place to title-challengers. He may have had problems in the past, but showing exceptional restraint on and off the pitch Suarez has turned his image around. Having just bagged a plethora of awards in the past week, the Uruguayan looks set for higher things at Anfield.
Verdict – Over-whelming success
Brendan Rodgers’ side has dared to dream and why not ? Having fought long and hard to keep the services of Luis Suarez they have made the best of his services. Making best use of the resources available is what Rodgers’ team has thrived on this season. The improvements shown by the likes of Raheem Sterling, Phillipe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and the story of the season Jordan Henderson have been absolutely heart-warming.
Things can only get better from here for the Reds and with some quality additions in the summer, expect Rodgers’ boys to mount an even better and stronger challenge next season.
